Dr Cooper’s talk will be of interest to anyone who wants to hear more about the history of the “special relationship” between the United Kingdom and the United States, the 1980s, American presidents and the Cold War generally.

Tuesday 4th October @ 6pm.

Free light refreshments available. No need to book.

The talk will explore President Reagan’s State Visit to the UK in June 1982, which took place in the backdrop of the Falklands War. Reagan enjoyed horse-back riding with the late Queen Elizabeth II, meetings with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and delivered what he would view as on his most important speeches. In his “Westminster Speech” Reagan predicted the end of the Cold War and called on allies to join his battle of ideas against Communism.
